It leads to Žiča - an early 13th century Serb Orthodox monastery near Kraljevo, 200 km away from Belgrade. Built by the first King of Serbia, Stefan the First-Crowned and the first Head of the Serbian Church, Saint Sava, Zica was the seat of the Archbishop (1219–1253), and by tradition the coronation church of the Serbian kings. The first king of medieval Serbian country Stefan was crowned in Žiča in 1217, what made Serbia the sovereign country in the Christian world. The tour continues to Studenica - a 12th-century Serbian Orthodox monastery situated 39 km southwest of Kraljevo, in central Serbia. It is one of the largest and richest Serb Orthodox monasteries founded by Stefan Nemanja, a founder of Nemanjić dynasty. Studenica was declared Monument of Culture of Exceptional Importance in 1979, and it is protected by Republic of Serbia, and in 1986 UNESCO included Studenica monastery on the list of World Heritage Sites. You will enjoy visiting its churches and its collection of 13th and 14th century Byzantine-style fresco paintings.
