We depart from Niš at 07:30h, from the parking lot opposite the City Hall.
We travel through Merošina and Prokuplje and we arrive in Kuršumlija, the capital of medieval Serbian state. A panoramic tour of the town with a visit to Saint Nicholas monastery and the Most Holy Theotokos monastery, the oldest endowments of Stefan Nemanja, built between 1159 and 1166.
The Most Holy Theotocos monastery lies near the site where the Kosanica flows into the Toplica. After visiting the monastery, we continue towards the south and we take a left turn at Rača towards Radan Mountain. At an elevation of 600 meters, lies a unique natural monument, Đavolja varoš (Devil’s Town), which was declared a unique monument of great importance by the Serbian Government.
The rock formations were created by centuries-old erosion processes and are unique in the world. They are made up of two parts, one on the left and the other on the right side of the ridge. The right part is known as Paklena jaruga (Hell’s Ravine), and the left one as Đavolja jaruga (Devil’s Ravine). We tour cultural heritage, enjoy the colours of Radan Mountain, and have a lunch break.
After touring Đavolja varoš, we proceed on to the main road and after half an hour’s drive, we arrive at Prolom Banja. Prolom Banja is a spa located on the slopes of Radan and Sokolovica mountains at an elevation between 550 and 650 meters.
After a short break, we go for a walk to Lazarica church, the only log church in Toplica District. According to an oral tradition, the army of prince Lazar took the Holy Communion at this site on the eve of the Battle of Kosovo. A special site is the churchyard with six twisted plum tree trunks that have a particular legend related to them. We conclude our great time together at the spa’s center with beverage and refreshment. Free time until departure. In the evening, we arrive in Niš. The itinerary finishes.
