Tour description:
First day:
Meeting at 7.30 AM in Novi Sad at a place we have previously agreed upon.
This is followed by picking up the vehicle and getting acquainted with its technical characteristics, as well as the use of the radio, necessary for communication during the journey. We leave at 8. 00 AM.
Our first destination is Petrovaradin Fortress. We'll visit its famous attractions, such as Ludwig's bastion and the Tower clock, from where you will have the opportunity to take panoramic photos of Novi Sad and watch the awakening of the city. During the tour, the guide will tell you the history of Petrovaradin Fortress.
We continue our journey along the old road to Sremski Karlovci. Upon arrival, we take a short walk through the center of this treasure trove of Serbian spirituality and culture. We'll visit the Patriarchate building, the Cathedral Church of St. Nicholas, Roman Catholic Church od St. Trinity, Karlovacka High School, Four Lions Fountain. We'll also take a short break to take photos. After a tour of the center, we leave for the viewpoint which offers an unforgettable view of the Danube.
We continue along the macadam road to the slopes of Fruska Gora Mount, where the first part of the off-road adventure through the mountainous part of Srem begins. Driving through the woods will also be the first test of the vehicle and radio.
Upon arrival at Velika Remeta Monastery, we take a break to visit and learn about the history of this extremely important religious and cultural treasure.
After an exciting ride, we reach the village of Vrdnik. We take our first break for refreshments and coffee in some beautiful, authentic locality. After a break, we continue on a dirt road through the slopes of Fruška Gora Mount.
We descend to the village of Ležimir, visit the Petkovica women's monastery and continue along the asphalt road to Sremska Mitrovica, the ancient Sirmium, the capital of the Roman Empire where as many as nine Roman emperors were born! Here we will see the remains of the Imperial Palace and the Grain Square, as well as numerous archeological sites that testify to the glorious past of the former capital of Upper Moesia.
We enter Machva by crossing the Sava River. On its right bank sits Macvanska Mitrovica, where we'll take a break to refresh on a raft-restaurant, and if we have time we'll have lunch as well. After a break, we continue through the rich and picturesque Macva towards the legendary Cer Mountain.
We continue to the village of Tekeriš, famous for the memorial complex, where several thousand heroes of the Cer battle were buried. By the way, this is the only memorial complex in Serbia dedicated to the victims of the First World War.
After visiting Tekeriš, we continue to Krupanj, where we will enjoy traditional Serbian specialties and spend the night in old cabins equipped to meet the needs of modern tourists, but also to provide an experience of how Serbian people had lived during the eighteenth and nineteenth century.
Note: In the case of a larger group, we will sleep in a nearby 3 star hotel.
Second day:
The second day begins with breakfast at 7. 30 AM, after which we continue our journey at 8.00 AM. After refueling, we head to the Good Stream, the most beautiful church complex in the area. In addition to visiting the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin, you will also have the opportunity to take a walk through the open-air museum, which also houses authentic 19th-century sculptures. After visiting the Good Stream, we continue our journey to Jagodnje Mountain and Mackovo Kamen, the place where the major battle took place between the Serbian and Austro-Hungarian armies in September 1914.
At that place, there is a memorial tomb with an incredible view of the Drina river. We will also come to a vantage point that offers a fantastic view of Bosnia and the Drina.
We continue our journey towards Jablanik. We'll drive off-road through a plateau guarded by raspberry plantations. The road is gravelly and the views are fascinating. From here we get to the part of the road where the ride will be a little more demanding and where the adrenaline will certainly work.
We continue to Soko grad, the last Turkish fort in the territory of Serbia. Due to its unconquerability and importance, the fortress was popularly called "Sultan's Bride". Upon the conclusion of the Berlin Congress and the exit of the Turkish army, the Serbs blew up the fort. Today it is just a ruin with a gilded cross rising 14 meters high and weighing two and a half tons at one end. He is a gift from a German citizen in remorse for the 1999 bombing. Here we'll rest and refresh with coffee and beverages.
The next stop is the Monastery of St. Vasil Ostroski from where we drive to the Soko Mountain. There is a source of healing natural water that, according to tradition, treats the barren. After that, we descend towards Pecka.
Before arriving at Valjevo, we take the off-road road, which leads to Jablanik Mountain. Here we'll take a break in the open lunch and refreshments. After lunch, we'll descend the mountain roads past the Mali and Veliki Povlen mountains, where we will enjoy a ride through the untouched nature.
In Valjevo, we will enjoy a typical Serbian dinner.
After dinner, we leave for Novi Sad.
The journey from Valjevo to Novi Sad will take about two hours.
