Departure to Žabalj, a small town 30 km away from Novi Sad. We take you to the Šajkaš region, home of Serb border guards, who defended their freedom and the right to maintain a traditional way of life by shedding blood on the battlefields across Europe for the needs of the Habsburg rulers. They were the first "dam" towards the Turks in their efforts to conquer Backa. The monument on the Black Bridge, which will also be our first destination, reminds us of their suffering.
Cheese production has a long tradition in the municipality of Žabalj. There are many types of cheese: rolled, Trappist, drizzled, crumbled, smoked ... combined with pepper, paprika, or greaves. It's up to you to choose!
We continue our journey to Kovilj, the birthplace of Laza Kostić. We'll show you the birth house of the famous poet, remind you of his verses, and his great love for Lena Dunđerski.
Then we'll visit the famous monastery. According to legend, this monastery dates from the 13th century and was founded by Saint Sava himself. The monastery was built as part of the Holy Archangels Michael and Gabriel, and today it is home to one of the most numerous fraternities in the country.
In addition to a devotion to prayers, the local monks make the far-famed honey, fruit brandy, cognac, and walnut liqueur.
After the monastery, we'll take you to the famous tavern named "At the end of the world", which welcomes guests in a new spirit in an ambiance of untouched nature.
Located on the bank of the Danube tributary and surrounded by the centuries-old forests of Kovilj Bogland, the tavern is an ideal place for total relaxation.
After lunch (fish is a specialty of the house here in all variants), we will go to the winery "At the end of the world" where we'll taste their most famous wines.
Return to Novi Sad is planned in the evening.
