Tour description:
This tour combines the best of Novi Sad, Sremski Karlovci as well as particular bits of Mt Fruška Gora with lots of stops to learn about wine making and, of course, taste it.
We will start the tour with an hour long walk through the very center of Novi Sad allowing you to see its most important sights as well as to soak up a bit of the atmosphere of this vibrating city. During our walk we will see the Orthodox Cathedral with its shiny fin de siecle interior, the pedestrianized Zmaj Jovina Street with its cafés and shops, the main square with the elegant City Hall and the grand neo-gothic Catholic Church, the elegant Dunavska Street etc.
We continue by car to the nearby historic town of Sremski Karlovci, famous for being the seat of the head of Serb Orthodox Church for 210 years as well as for its centuries old tradition in making excellent wines. After the sightseeing tour of the town we head to Živanović winery, to see their museum of winemaking and beekeeping, their ancient cellar and to taste their honeys and wines, including the famous medicinal bermet wine that made Sremski Karlovci world famous.
From here we will head up and across Mount Fruška Gora, driving through its forests protected as a nature reserve. We will then arrive to the small Rakovac nunnery dating back to 16th century but heavily damaged in World War Two.
Our next stop is the village of Banoštor that has a long tradition in wine making. In one of its wine cellars we will first have a workshop during which each of our guests will learn the essentials of good wine making (crowned with a small certificate on it). Afterwards, it is time to taste all the wines produced by our hosts. Next on the schedule for the day is lunch, organized in another winery in Banoštor.
Having thus satisfied both our curiosity and the epicurean needs we head back to Novi Sad where we are expected to return in late afternoon.
